The African Union Committee on Sudan, hosted by the President of the Republic

The President of the Republic, Chairman of the current session of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, received at the Presidential Palace the Chairman of the African Union High-Level Committee on Resolving the Conflict in Sudan, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas.
Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas's visit to Djibouti comes within the framework of a regional tour, during which he meets with leaders of countries in the region, with the aim of consulting with them and listening to them regarding accelerating the African Union peace plan for the benefit of Sudan, which is suffering from a fratricidal conflict.
During the meeting, the President of the Republic, the current head of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development, and the African diplomat reviewed ways that would allow for greater coordination and consensus between the various initiatives that were launched at the regional, continental, and international levels to restore peace and stability in Sudan.
The discussions resulted in a consensus between the two sides on the need to call on the parties to the Sudanese crisis to adhere to a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan.
The two parties also agreed on the importance of sending an appeal to the parties to the conflict in Sudan, based on the principle of expanding the ceasefire followed during the month of Ramadan, into a permanent ceasefire.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, the Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Issa Khairi Robleh, and the Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic, Mrs. Fathia Jamaa Aden.
