The President of the Republic arrives in Nairobi to participate in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly

The President of the Republic, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, arrived yesterday, Wednesday, in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to participate in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, which is being held under the slogan “Effective, comprehensive and sustainable multilateral action to address climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution.”
The United Nations Environment Assembly was established in 2012, and meets every two years to determine global environmental policy priorities and develop international environmental law.
During its 2024 session, the association will host a record number of delegates of about six thousand, including heads of state and government and high-ranking delegations, in addition to experts, activists and representatives of various industries.
The President of the Republic, the current President of IGAD, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, will deliver a speech at the session in which he will review developments related to the environment, including the measures taken and legislation in force at the national and regional levels regarding environmental protection.
It should be noted that Djibouti has adopted a policy aiming to adopt 100% clean energy by 2030, and has also taken a number of important measures to confront and enhance resilience to the harmful effects of climate change. In this context, the Regional Observatory for Environmental and Climate Research was launched, which is considered a scientific platform to provide Climatic data, guiding national policies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
On the sidelines of the session, the President of the Republic will meet with many of his counterparts, heads of state participating in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly.
