Djibouti celebrates National Press Day

Under the patronage of Prime Minister Abdelkader Kamel Mohamed, the People’s Palace hosted a ceremony yesterday, Sunday, to commemorate National Press Day under the slogan “Social Media: Challenges and Opportunities.”
The celebration was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister of Information in charge of Posts and Telecommunications, Mr. Radwan Abdullah Bahdoun, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Economy and Innovation, Mrs. Maryam Hamdou Ali, in addition to senior officials of the Ministry of Information, including the Secretary-General, Mr. Ahmed Youssef Alami, and the Director of the Information Department, Mr. / Ibrahim Mir Ali, as well as the Chairman of the National Media Committee, Mr. Ali Mohamed Dambio, the President of the Djiboutian Journalists Syndicate, Mr. Kendid Ibrahim, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to our country and development partners,
A group of journalists and media professionals working for Radio and Television of Djibouti, the newspapers Al-Qarn and Al-Umma, and the Djiboutian News Agency also attended.
   The Prime Minister said, “Celebrating this occasion confirms the national desire to strengthen the work of the media, and that its institutionalization reflects the government’s commitment to a free, diverse, and responsible press. Therefore, I am naturally pleased to be with you on this occasion, which is celebrated this year under the slogan “Media Media.” “Social Media: Challenges and Opportunities” is an inevitable reality of our time, as these platforms have become the main carrier of communication and expression, and the issue of regulating them seriously raises the importance of the delicate balance between freedom of expression and the need to regulate social media.
  At the conclusion of his speech, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to freedom of the press and its recognition of the essential role played by the media in this field.
For his part, the Minister of Information indicated that celebrating National Journalism Day constitutes an opportunity to reflect on current issues related to this noble profession.

He explained that the theme of the celebration, “Social Media: Challenges and Opportunities,” highlights the rapidly changing media landscape, shaped by the emergence of social media platforms.
During his speech, the Minister said, “The media sector has undergone many reforms at the initiative of the President of the Republic, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh. These reforms focused on organizing structures, modernizing equipment, and developing human resources, and my ministerial department continues to affirm its support for all efforts aimed at media transformation, which must be in line with the challenges of the constantly changing digital environment.
