The National Institute of Statistics received 1,400 tablets from Egypt, intended for use in conducting the third population census.
This was during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Dr. Elias Musa Douala, in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to our country, Mr. Khaled Al-Shazly, the Director General of the National Institute of Statistics, Mr. Ibrahim Abdi Haddi, and the representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Ms. Aisha Ibrahim.
The Minister of Finance and Economy indicated that this grant contributes to facilitating the process of conducting the third general population census, during the current year 2024, explaining that this occasion comes within the framework of existing cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the development field, specifically in the field of preparing surveys and censuses and developing development databases.
Mr. Elias Dawaleh added, “Statistical data is an essential foundation in formulating the visions and strategies necessary to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, which reflects positively on the economic, social, environmental and demographic reality.
For his part, the Egyptian Ambassador reviewed an aspect of Egypt's experience in the field of preparing statistics and census, through the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, noting at the same time that Egypt has conducted about 14 general population censuses since 1882, the most recent of which is the General Census of Population, Housing, and Establishments for the year 2017.
Noting that these surveys and censuses were placed in the hands of experts and academics, there is a huge wealth of data that has opened the way for specialized and in-depth study and research for various sectors.
