A new solar power plant in Ali Sabieh province

The Minister of Energy, Mr. Yunus Ali Gedi, inaugurated a new solar energy station in the village of “Asamu” in the Ali Sabieh region in the south of the country.
The opening was attended by the Minister Delegate in charge of Decentralization, Mr. Qasim Haroun Ali, along with high-level cadres from the Ministry of Energy, the governor of the region and other high-ranking figures from the civil and military corps.
The implementation of the project to build the aforementioned solar energy station was carried out by the Ministry’s team, with the support of the Ministry’s affiliated bodies concerned with energy, especially the Electricity of Djibouti and the International Hydrocarbons Company in Djibouti.
The capacity of this station, which includes more than 480 high-quality photovoltaic solar panels, is estimated at 150 kilowatts and is scheduled to initially provide electrical energy to more than 75 families, meaning more than 600 people living in this town.
In addition, each family benefited from a free electrical connection consisting of lamps, fans and electrical sockets, which would provide comfort to the families of Asamo village through lighting and ventilation.
It is worth noting that this project falls within the policy implemented by the Ministry of Energy in the field of rural electricity supply, with the aim of improving rural residents’ access to modern energy services through sustainable small networks and spreading solar technology in the most remote villages.”
It is also worth noting that our country enjoys one of the highest levels of sunshine in Africa and in the world, with enormous potential in producing solar energy. From this standpoint, the Djiboutian government, led by the President of the Republic, Ismail Omar Guelleh, seeks to make optimal use of this powerful potential of available solar energy. In our country and directed to the benefit of our rural population.
After delivering official speeches, the two ministers proceeded to unveil the inauguration plaque of the solar power plant before visiting the various technical buildings, electrical equipment and materials of the power plant and the site for planting the 480 photovoltaic solar panels.
