Djibouti celebrates International Mother Language Day

The Republic of Djibouti celebrated the occasion of International Mother Language Day. The activities of this international day were held in the lecture hall of the National Library, under the patronage of the Minister of Youth and Culture, Dr. Hbou Momin Asuwa, in the presence of many writers, authors and intellectuals from the Somali Book Club and the Afar Writers Club, in addition to professors and students from the University of Djibouti and officials from the Ministry of Youth and Culture.
It was also noticeable the presence of many Djiboutian artists and singers, who actively participated in this international event, celebrated annually, to highlight the importance of the mother language in societies as it is the first language of development and communication that individuals learn, and reflects their identity and cultural heritage.
This celebration also emphasized the necessity of commitment to linguistic diversity and comprehensive education, and the basic values of the harmonious and sustainable development of our country and its youth, so that the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and supporting the learning of mother languages and their use in education and daily life is emphasized.
In an atmosphere of friendliness and exchange, this event highlighted the importance of promoting and preserving mother languages, as a real means of enhancing cultural identity and transmitting it between generations.
It should be noted that celebrating this day is considered an occasion to enhance awareness of the importance of the mother language in promoting cultural communication and understanding between peoples, and to encourage efforts to protect and preserve mother languages and enhance their use in daily life and official institutions.
